Ultimately I can't see Putin accepting Ukraine in NATO - In fact I think he'd want a guarantee that Ukraine would stay out .. but he'd have to give something and one wonders if he'd accept Ukraine as an accession state within the EU with a series of bilateral security guarantees ... ???
